The 113' 6" San Salvador is considered the founding ship of San Diego and of the State of California. Here it is seen approaching Shelter Island just a few days before it's inaugural voyage up the California coast, Sept. 2116.
L.J. Oakes' eye for nature began at a young age fishing, trapping and hunting in the woodlands of western Pennsylvania. His painting style is realistic and realistic impressionism, painting with acrylics and oils.
